With the arrival of the baby, parents have many new concerns, but special attention must be paid to the care of the newborn. What do young parents need to know in order for the baby to grow and develop normally?
These are basic hygiene and child care skills: washing, washing, bathing, managing an umbilical wound, cleaning ears and nose, cutting nails and other procedures.
You need to wash the child every day. A newborn baby should be washed with warm boiled water.
Wash the baby’s face with gentle movements.
Special attention must be paid eyes, They are cleaned with cotton pads or cotton balls. The cotton pads (you can immediately two) are dipped in warm boiled water and clean the baby’s eyes in the direction from the outside corner of the eye to the inside (you can clean both eyes at the same time).
For each eye, use a separate cotton pad.
We clean the pipe
It is recommended to clean the nose daily, but for a baby it is not a very pleasant procedure, therefore, if the baby does not have respiratory problems and does not have scabs on the nose, this procedure can be done every two days. To clean the nostrils, it is recommended to use cotton flagella moistened with Vaseline oil.
The cotton flagella are made independently of ordinary cotton. The flagellum is inserted in the child’s nasal passage in 1 cm and is cleaned from the inside out with circular movements.
We clean the ears
Baby ears, you can clean it during the morning wash (with your hand submerged in boiled water). It is not recommended to clean the ear canals for newborns, but if you think they are “dirty”, do it very carefully. Clean the region of the ear and ear with a cotton swab moistened in boiled water.
It is convenient to clean the baby’s ears after bathing, for this it is sufficient to clean them with a cotton pad or a cotton ball.
Umbilical wound care
Treat the navel of the baby until the complete healing of the umbilical wound. As a general rule, this process takes about 2-3 weeks. Hydrogen peroxide is used to remove scabs.
Moisten a cotton swab in 3% hydrogen peroxide and apply over the umbilical wound (you can only drop a little peroxide on the umbilical wound), then carefully remove the soaked scabs. Then, with a clean cotton swab, submerge it in a bright green solution and treat the umbilical wound.
Since this may indicate the presence of omphalitis (inflammation of the umbilical wound).
For a better and faster healing of the umbilical wound, make sure that the clothes and diapers do not fall on the navel and do not irritate it.
After drying and healing the umbilical wound, no special care is needed for the baby’s navel.
For nail trimming, many recommend using scissors with rounded ends, for safety reasons. Personally, it was more convenient for me to use common nail scissors (individual for a child). Just by cutting the nails, you should firmly fix the baby’s handle in which you cut the nails so you do not remove it (it’s not that difficult, it’s still quite small), and fix the second handle so it does not interfere with it.
In newborns, the legs grow quickly, so they should be cut once every 3-4 days (well, or sooner, if your baby’s nails grow even faster). Trim nails after bathing (as they soften with water) and in a well-lit room.
The line of nails cut into the hands should be slightly rounded, and straight on the legs (to avoid ingrown toenails). Do not cut too short nails, leave about 1 mm.
It is necessary to wash the newborn after each act of defecation and urination, to avoid the appearance of irritation or diaper rash. In the cold season, after urination, it is acceptable to use wet wipes.
Girls should wash with running water in the direction of the belly to the back (from front to back) to avoid the remains of feces and germs from the rectum to the genitals.
For children, the order of washing is not important. Keep in mind that when washing the child, do not move the foreskin.
It is recommended to use soap only with severe skin contamination. Frequent use of soap during washing can cause dry skin and irritation.
The diapers are disposable and reusable (gauze).
To change the diaper in advance, prepare all the necessary things: a clean diaper, diaper (baby romper), baby cream and more.
Place your baby on the changing mat or on any horizontal surface (cover with an oil cloth). Open and unfold the dirty diaper, lift the child by the legs with one hand and remove the diaper with the other. After that, the baby can wash or wipe the stained skin with a damp cloth.
Dry your baby’s skin with a clean diaper, if necessary, apply a baby cream, a cream under a diaper or other cosmetics. Once again, raise the baby’s legs, put on the diaper, lower the baby’s legs and buckle the pins.
During the preparation of the baby and changing diapers, it is recommended to do “air” baths. They are a good prevention of the appearance of the diaper rash, as well as an excellent method to harden the baby.
Treat daily hygiene procedures as an opportunity to express your love and care. Smile, talk, play with the baby and the usual routine will become moments of joy for you and your baby.
